Comparing Soft OLED and Hard OLED Displays

Soft OLEDs (or flexible OLED) displays are manufactured using the flexible plastic substrate. Their performance features are very close to those of the original equipment manufacturer, namely:

• they partly absorb shock in case of a fall - soft OLED displays are made of soft elastic material, increasing the likelihood of not being damaged after a fall;
• display dimensions are equivalent to OEM - soft OLED display size matches the dimensions of the original displays by 100%;
• colour contrast and accuracy are equivalent to OEM - you can hardly feel any difference in colour rendering after replacing an original display with the soft OLED one;
• they feature high-quality flexible flat cables - their flat cables are identical to the original ones, and very flexible during the installation process.

For instance, the manufacturing technologies of the original iPhone X displays are very close to the one of soft OLED.

Hard OLED (or rigid OLED) displays are manufactured using the hard glass substrate. They are not bendable and require a bigger phone frame, which results in a significant reduction of the screen size. These displays are more prone to damages in the event of a fall.

Advantages of Hard OLED displays:

• Comparatively low price - they are cheaper as the glass substrate is lower in price than the plastic one.
• Excellent colour contrast and accuracy - hard OLED displays feature an excellent screen brightness and superior colours rendering, almost equal to that of the OEM.
